Galvanizing of forged products

Forged products are always associated with strength, aesthetics, and durability. However, the main enemy of metal—corrosion—gradually destroys the beauty and functionality of forged structures. The first thing that comes to mind for protecting forged metal is painting. It seems like a simple and familiar solution. But in reality, for complex forged items, it is only a temporary illusion of protection. Because:

  1. Paint does not cover 100% of the surface. Try perfectly painting every bend, twist, joint, and hidden corner with a brush. It’s practically impossible. And any microscopic gap where paint hasn’t reached becomes a future center of corrosion;
  2. It’s a constant struggle. Paint cracks from temperature changes, gets scratched by branches, and damaged during use. You’ll have to constantly clean rust, prime, and repaint. It’s a vicious circle of time and money loss.

Therefore, instead of endless repainting, it’s better to do it reliably once. Hot-dip galvanizing is the solution that provides true long-term protection for forged products. The zinc coating penetrates even the smallest cavities and bends, creating a continuous barrier against corrosion. Next, we’ll explain how the galvanizing process for forged products takes place and why it guarantees decades of flawless appearance without constant maintenance.

How We Galvanize Forged Products

At our plant, each product goes through thorough preparation: oils, rust, and oxides are removed, after which the metal is rinsed, treated with flux, and dried. Only then is the structure galvanized (immersed in a bath of molten zinc). Hot-dip galvanizing is the process of immersing the finished product in molten zinc at a temperature above 440°C. As a result, a dense diffusion coating forms, bonding with the metal at the molecular level. Thanks to this:

  • the coating evenly covers both external surfaces and internal cavities;
  • the protection does not peel or crack even upon impact;
  • forged elements retain their strength and aesthetic appearance for decades.

Advantages of Galvanizing for Forged Products

Unlike painting or powder coating, hot-dip galvanizing provides dual protection—barrier and cathodic. This makes the method the most effective compared to others. The main advantages are as follows:

  • Durability. Products last 3–5 times longer than painted or lacquered ones;
  • Resistance. The zinc coating withstands rain, snow, sea air, and industrial pollution;
  • Cost efficiency. No need for regular maintenance or painting reduces long-term expenses;
  • Decorative options. Powder paint or patina can easily be applied over hot zinc, creating a personalized design;
  • Comprehensive protection. Even in case of a scratch or chip, the steel does not rust thanks to the cathodic effect of zinc.
