Even the smallest metal parts need reliable corrosion protection. Bolts, nuts, brackets, or other elements weighing up to 5 kg are often used in conditions of high humidity, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical loads. Without protection, they quickly rust and lose strength. A reliable solution is hot-dip galvanizing, which forms a durable protective barrier.
Which parts can be galvanized
The category of products up to 5 kg includes mounting plates, small welded assemblies, brackets, hinges, washers, anchors, and other components. Despite their small weight, these elements are critically important for the operation of large structures, so high-quality galvanizing is a mandatory preparation step!
Why hot-dip galvanizing
When it comes to long-term metal protection, hot-dip galvanizing is considered the most effective method. Unlike painting or cold galvanizing, this method forms a strong diffusion coating that protects for decades. It provides a complete barrier against moisture, reagents, and mechanical damage. Specifically:
- uniform coating: protection of all surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas;
- strong adhesion: created through a reaction at a temperature above 440 °C;
- cathodic effect: the coating “self-protects” small scratches;
- durability: the service life of parts increases 5–10 times.
Processing technology
The process begins with careful preparation of the metal. Shot blasting removes rust, scale, grease, and paint residues. Next, the parts are immersed in molten zinc, where a dense multilayer coating is formed. The final stage is thickness control according to ISO 1461:2022, which guarantees the best result.
How to prepare parts for galvanizing
Proper preparation of parts for hot-dip galvanizing is the key to a high-quality and durable coating. If the surface has paint, grease, or other foreign materials, the zinc layer will not be able to adhere evenly. Therefore, before sending products for processing, it is important to consider a few mandatory requirements:
- Products must be free of paint, grease, plastic, or sealants;
- Weld seams must be cleaned of slag and flux;
- Hollow elements must have drainage and ventilation holes;
- During transportation, small parts should be packed to avoid damage.
See the full list of requirements on the “Preparation for galvanizing” page.
Cost and conditions
The price of hot-dip galvanizing small parts depends on the coating area, shape complexity, batch weight, and the need for additional preparation. Serial batches are processed more cost-effectively — a significant number of elements can be galvanized at the same time. The base cost of galvanizing is 33.00 UAH/kg of finished product (incl. VAT). This rate applies to parts weighing from 2 kg per piece and above.
